Coal Mining Industry
Coal has been around for as long has man has been alive. Over the years coal used to be the main energy source for heating and even lighting as it was used for electricity generation. The coal industry has developed over the years employing millions directly and providing for even more millions indirectly. In the recent times however the industry has experienced slow growth as coal use is being replaced in all major sectors by oil and gas products. This does not however mean that coal use has ceased. All major world countries are still making use of coal especially in metal smelting factories where a lot of heating is required.
Despite all the benefits of coal, it also has its own demerits. Thousands of people have lost their lives in coal mines over the years as a result of collapsing mines and chemical explosions. Consider all the job opportunities the industry has created. The coal companies pay billions of dollars in tax to governments all over the world each year. In addition coal has kept many industries running providing energy and lighting in homes, schools and businesses for a very long time. In the process of coal excavation thousands of archaeological sites and facts have been discovered. The archaeological sites have been studied by historians and have helped to enrich many cultures.
